Rams’ Boys’ Soccer Grabs Two Victories; Field Hockey Sees Even Week

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team had three games on the schedule last week and earned two wins out of the three. With these results, Old Saybrook’s record on the year moved to 5-2-2 on season. The Rams moved within a win or a tie of qualifying for the Class S State Tournament.

Head Coach Sam Barnes’s squad started the week with a 1-1 tie at home versus Stonington on Sept. 30. Two days later, the Rams picked up a 4-0 home win against Westbrook. On Oct. 4, Old Saybrook won 4-1 decision at home versus Cromwell.

Girls’ Soccer

The Rams played a pair of games last week and split their results in those contests. With a win and a loss, the Rams’ record moved to 3-6 on the season.

On Oct. 2, Old Saybrook went up against Westbrook on the road and grabbed a 5-0 victory over the Knights. Two days later, the Rams dropped a 5-2 road match against Cromwell.

Field Hockey

Old Saybrook came away with a split of its last two matchups. With these results the Rams’ record moved to 5-2 on the season with a 3-2 mark within the Shoreline Conference.

On Oct. 3, Old Saybrook picked up a 2-0 home win versus Morgan. Taylor Stone scored both of the Rams’ goals, with assists from Leah Wysocki and McKenna Gibson. Wendy Bowden made two saves in the net off of two Morgan shots. Stone’s two goals increased her total number of goals on the season to eight.

The next day, Old Saybrook lost a 1-0 home contest against Westbrook. Despite the loss, Bowden put forth a valiant effort in goal making 11 saves.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook football squad took a 38-0 loss against on the road against Windsor Locks-Suffield-East Granby. The defeat drops the Rams’ record to 1-3 on the season.

Up next for the Rams is another road contest at Gilbert-Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Gilbert High School.
