Cougars’ Volleyball Takes Two of Three; Cross Country Squads Continue Winning Ways

Girls’ Volleyball

The Haddam-Killingworth volleyball squad improved to 6-4 after winning two of its three matchups last week. The Cougars need two more victories to qualify for the Class M State Tournament.

H-K defeated Valley Regional by the final tally of 3-2 on Oct. 2. Two days later, H-K lost to The Sport & Medical Sciences Academy by a 3-0 score. The Cougars came back to notch a 3-2 victory against Hand on Oct. 5.

Football

Haddam-Killingworth took a 20-0 road loss against Gilbert-Northwestern on Oct. 5. The Cougars are now 0-4 on the year.

Quarterback Alex Riccitelli completed five passes for 36 yards and also ran six times for 26 yards for the Cougars in the defeat.

H-K’s next game is at home against Granby-Canton on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer

The Cougars moved to 1-7 after taking two losses last week.

On Sept. 30, H-K dropped a 3-0 decision against East Hampton. Then on Oct. 4, the Cougars lost to Hale-Ray by the final score of 3-1.

Field Hockey

H-K took two recent defeats and has a record of 0-7 this season.

The Cougars lost to Valley Regional by the final score of 3-0 on Oct. 2. Three days later, H-K took a 7-0 loss versus North Branford.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Cougars traveled to North Branford to compete in the Floyd Parness Invitational at Totoket Park on Oct. 1. H-K defeated all five of its opponents on the day to stay undefeated with a record of 10-0. H-K defeated Morgan, North Branford, and Old Lyme by the score of 15-50, while recording 25-36 victories over Old Saybrook and Valley Regional.

The Cougars ran in a pack at the meet, led by senior Michael Coleman, who posted a time of 18:55 to take fifth place. Following Coleman to the finish in the next seven spots were freshman Mason Gorham, sophomore Tyler Robinson, senior Christian Uzwiak, junior Matt Jennings, junior Sean Rutledge, junior Fisher Harris, senior Griffin Robinson, and junior Julian Spector, who all ran the same time of 18:55.

Girls’ Cross Country

H-K improved to 9-0 by picking up four victories at the Floyd Parness Invitational last week. The Cougars downed both Morgan and North Branford by the score 15-50 to go with a 15-49 win over Old Lyme and a 20-41 triumph against Valley Regional.

Freshman Isabella Berardino finished in second place with a time of 23:01 for the Cougars. Finishing behind Berardino in the next five places were senior Julia Callis, junior Meara Bodak, senior Lauren D’Amico, senior Ava DiMatteo, and junior Brianna Minervino, each of whom clocked in with the same mark of 23:01.
