Guilford posted 2-1 victories versus both Fairfield Prep and Amity last week. The Indians now have a record of 6-1-1 and have qualified for the Class L State Tournament.

On Oct. 1, Guilford edged out Fairfield Prep by a 2-1 score at Bittner Park. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Indians rallied for two goals in the second half to upend the Jesuits. Noah Kosh’s free kick from midfield eluded both a defender and Fairfield Prep’s goalkeeper, then trickled across the line to tie the game in the 62nd minute. Ten minutes later, Niall O’Brien scored off of a pass from Cal Stephens to give the Indians a 2-1 edge.

Three days later, the Indians notched a 2-1 road victory against Amity to make states. Guilford scored one goal in each half to earn the win. Cade Yerkes found back of the net in the 31st minute, after which Indians scored on an own goal from Amity in the 51st minute. Girls’ Soccer

The Indians took their first loss of the year with a 1-0 defeat to Mercy on Oct. 1, but the Indians bounced right back into the win column by posting a 4-0 victory over Lauralton Hall on Oct. 4. Guilford stands at 7-1 on the year and has qualified for the Class L State Tournament.

Mercy scored the only goal of the game in the first half and then hung on to defeat the Indians. The Tigers’ goal marked the first score that Guilford allowed all season.

In the Lauralton Hall game, Lily Riccio provided the bulk of the offense for the Indians by scoring three goals in the victory. Olivia McMahon added the fourth goal to help Guilford punch its ticket into states.

Riccio took a free kick from goalie Claire Mackenzie near midfield, dribbled the rest of the way, and sent it home for the game’s first goal in the 56th minute. Riccio scored again in the 74th minute and then completed her hat trick by scoring her third goal just three minutes later.

Mackenzie and Olivia Ste. Marie combined for the shutout in net for the Indians.
