Field Hockey

The Westbrook field hockey team grabbed a pair of wins last week in as many contests as they continue a solid start to the season. With the victories, Head Coach Janet Dickey’s squad moved to 2-0-1 on the season.

On Sept. 17, the Knights blew out Haddam-Killingworth with an 7-0 win at home. Westbrook went up by four goals in the first half and added three more in the second. As impressive was the fact that they allowed no goals at all. The Westbrook defense stifled the Cougars and didn’t even allow a shot for goalkeeper Lauren Horne to save.

The Knights were bolstered by three goals from senior Alex Young and two goals from junior Maguerite Bartlett. Olivia Hartzell scored a goal and provided an assist, while Brooke Neri also added a goal. Megan Greaves and Bailey Roberts had an assist apiece.

Three days later, Westbrook earned a narrow 1-0 victory versus Valley Regional.

Boys’ Soccer

The Knights played two games last week and came away with a split of the pair. Head Coach Gerald Carlone’s squad grabbed a 2-1 over Shoreline rival Valley Regional then lost a 6-1 decision against Coginchaug. With these results, the Knights moved to 2-1 on the season.

On Sept. 17, Westbrook headed to Deep River to face Valley and the game was even at 0-0 in the first half. After halftime, the Knights scored a goal by virtue of a penalty kick. Shortly after that, Westbrook scored thanks to a nice shot on a free kick to make it 2-0. Valley would eventually pick up a goal, but it would prove too little too late to overtake Westbrook.

Three days later Westbrook hosted Coginchaug and took a 6-1 defeat at home.

Girls’ Soccer

Westbrook played two games last week and lost both of them. On Sept. 16, the Knights hosted Valley Regional and were defeated by a score of 6-1. Two days later, Westbrook went to Durham and dropped a 7-1 contest versus the Blue Devils. With these losses, the Knights record falls to 1-2 on the young season.
