Morgan Boys’ Soccer Takes Two; Girls Get a Win and a Tie

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team continued its winning ways with another pair of wins in as many games last week. The Head Coach Ross Demay’s squad defeated Coginchaug and East Hampton to move its record to 4-0 on the year.

On Sept. 17 the Huskies hosted Coginchaug and defeated the Blue Devils by a score of 5-1. Three days later, Morgan defeated East Hampton for a 3-2 home win.

Morgan fell behind early when East Hampton scored in the fifth minute of the game to make it 1-0. Zach Tuccitto tied the game up with a goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from Alex Kadlof. Ten minutes later, Tuccitto scored again, this time off a helper from Sean Cafferty to take a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, Kadlof scored a goal off an assist from Tyler Mucha for the 3-1 lead. East Hampton scored another goal on a penalty kick with 11 minutes left, but the Huskies held on for the win.

Nick Rubino had a solid game in net making four saves as Morgan outshot the Bellringers 21-12.

Girls’ Soccer

The Huskies played two games last week and came away with a win and a tie in contests against Coginchaug and East Hampton. With these results, Head Coach Steve Sullivan’s squad moved its record to 2-1-1 on the season.

On Sept. 15, the Huskies were in Durham to battle Coginchaug and narrowly triumphed with a 1-0 road win. In an evenly matched contest, Morgan was able to squeak out with a win thanks to a goal from Carley Schmidt with just 30 seconds left in the game on a helper from Maddie Stopkoski.

Morgan and Coginchaug each managed seven shots on goal and Huskies’ keeper Natalie Novarro made seven saves in net.

Three days later, the Huskies were in East Hampton to face off with the Bellringers. Morgan scored an early goal with Stopkoski putting the ball in the net just three minutes into the game off an assist from Alyssa Smith. East Hampton tied the game shortly before the end of the first half at 1-1.

Each team’s goal was the result of a corner kick. The game would remain tied and ultimately end with in a 1-1 final.

Morgan took seven shots to East Hampton’s five and Novarro made four saves.

Field Hockey

Morgan played three games last week and ended up with two wins at the end of the slate. With these results, Head Coach Emily Lisy’s squad moved its record to 3-1 on the year.

On Sept. 16, the Huskies defeated Norwich Free Academy in an 8-1 road win.

Two days later, Morgan played North Branford and lost by a score of 4-0. Morgan’s goalie, Abigail Gordon, made a valiant effort with 15 saves in net.

On Sept. 21, the Huskies played East Catholic at home and won by a 3-0 final. Aryn McQuarrie scored all three goals unassisted on behalf of Morgan. In goal, Abigail Gordon made five saves for the Huskies.

Volleyball

Morgan played three matches last week and lost all of them. With the defeats, the Huskies record fell to 1-3 on the year.

On Sept. 16, Morgan lost three straight sets to Amistad for a 3-0 road loss. The Huskies just barely lost the first set with Amistad winning 25-23. In the second set, Morgan fell just short again with Amistad winning 26-24. In the third set, Amistad defeated Morgan 25-9.

Two days later, the Huskies lost a 3-0 road matchup with Haddam-Killingworth. H-K took the first set by a score of 25-10, the second set 25-14, and the third set 25-15.

On Sept. 19, Morgan hosted Hale-Ray and lost, 3-0.

Football

The Huskies had a bye this past week and still have an 0-1 record on the year. Next for Morgan will be the team’s home opener versus SMSA-University-Classical on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
