North Haven Rallies for Walk-off Win Versus Waterford


The North Haven fall baseball played four games during recent action, coming away with one win, two losses, and a tie to stand at 1-2-1 in league play this year. North Haven’s victory was a 7-6 walk-off win against Waterford on Sept. 22.

North Haven took on Amity Gray for a doubleheader on Sept. 14. North Haven lost a 6-4 decision in the first game and then battled Amity to a 10-10 tie in the nightcap.

North Haven was trailing 6-1 entering the seventh inning of the first game. North Haven rallied for three runs to cut the deficit to 6-4, but was unable to complete the comeback. Owen Pincince went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for North Haven. Derek Novicki and Anthony Denya both went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, North Haven was down 7-2 before exploding for eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-7 advantage. Amity came back with three runs in the sixth to tie game at 10-10, which held up as the final score.

Cole Zalegowski went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base to lead North Haven. Denya went 2-for-2 with an RBI, Chris Hager was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base; and Shaun Murray drew two walks to go with a run scored and two RBI. Alex Bauman threw a scoreless inning of relief and also went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run, and an RBI at the plate.

Then on Sept. 20, North Haven dropped a 5-4 decision against the City Angels. Pincince went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI for North Haven. Hager was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Derek Novicki went 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Shaun Murray allowed one run in 2.1 innings of relief, and Robert Farrelly tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

Two days later, North Haven rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get a 7-6 walk-off victory versus Waterford. With two outs, Pincince hit an RBI single that cut the deficit to 6-4. After a single by Ryan Balzano, Devin Santiago hit a single that made it 6-5. Chris Hager followed by lacing a two-run single to right field that brought home the tying and winning runs for North Haven. Santiago went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBI; Pincince was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Balzano went 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Farrelly pitched three scoreless innings of relief, and Hager picked up the win by pitching the final inning for North Haven.
