Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team picked up a pair of wins in the first couple of games on the 2019 campaign. The Huskies are the defending Shoreline Conference champions, and they opened up the season looking as strong as ever. The victories give Morgan a 2-0 mark to start.

On Sept. 12, Morgan headed to Deep River to play Valley Regional and picked up a 5-3 road win.

Valley started off with a 3-0 lead scored their goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Looking at a 3-0 deficit, Morgan chipped away with goals from Zach Tuccitto in the 34th minute, assisted by Max Skidmore, and in the 41st minute, assisted by Sean Cafferty. At the intermission, Morgan had climbed back into the game trailing 3-2.

Then in the second half, it was all Morgan with Skidmore scoring at 54 minutes on an assist from Tuccitto, and Cafferty getting a goal on an assist from Nate Rice at 65 minutes. The Huskies grabbed the 4-3 lead, and Tuccitto extended it with an unassisted goal at 78 minutes to seal the deal. Nick Rubino had three saves in net for the Huskies.

Two days later, the Huskies beat Waterford in a 3-0 home match. Morgan beats Waterford 3-0. Skidmore grabbed the first goal just five minutes in on a helper from Tuccitto. Then Tuccitto got a goal on an assist from Cafferty 65 minutes in. Four minutes later, Manny Romero popped one into the net on another Tuccitto assist. Rubino made three saves in net.

Girls’ Soccer

The Huskies played a pair of contests last week and split their two games. After winning the Shoreline Conference title last season, Morgan hopes to reach those heights again, but starts with a 1-1 mark on the year.

On Sept. 12, the Huskies earned a narrow 1-0 road victory over Cromwell. After a scoreless first half, Morgan pushed past the keeper to secure the win.

Two days later, the Huskies lost a 3-1 match at home versus Waterford. The teams were tied heading into halftime, but Waterford pulled away with a pair of scores in the second half.

Field Hockey

The Huskies opened up 2019 with a big win over Norwich Free Academy. Morgan posted a 1-0 record and looks to be in good shape with a nice slate of home games approaching after one road game.

On Sept. 13, the Huskies grabbed a 3-0 home win versus Haddam-Killingworth. Morgan scored its first goal when Aryn McQuarrie put the ball in the net off an assist by Delaney Mastriano. Emma Farrell score Morgan’s second goal and was assisted by McQuarrie. The Huskies got their third goal from McQuarrie off an assist from Emma Farrell.

Abby Gordon had a solid day in net with six saves.

Volleyball
