The East Haven football team went on the road and defeated SCC Tier 3 opponent Foran by the final score of 14-7 in its season opener on Sept. 13.

The Yellowjackets got on the board first when senior captain quarterback Tanner DiVito connected with fellow senior Nathan Santos for a 49-yard touchdown pass. Junior Eric Araujo booted home the extra point to give East Haven an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Yellowjackets' defense was strong and kept Foran off the board in the first half as East Haven took a 7-0 advantage into the break. After the Lions scored the game-tying touchdown in the third quarter, junior running back Alex Duarte punched in the game-winning score on a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Araujo converted the extra point to give the Easties a 14-7 lead.

Araujo finished the game with nine carries for 88 yards, and Duarte had 10 rushes for 48 yards and the TD. DiVito went 3-for-5 passing with 62 yards and a touchdown to go with four carries for 27 yards and two catches for 15 yards. Unfortunately, DiVito suffered a thumb injury in the second quarter and had to leave the game. Junior Trey Garea came in to play quarterback and was 3-of-5 for 27 yards.

In terms of receiving, in addition to Santos's 49-yard touchdown catch, senior Mike Caruso had one reception for 20 yards, senior Jake Marquardt caught a 15-yard pass, and junior Dave Amatruda had a five-yard reception.

Next up, East Haven will square off with non-conference opponent Brookfield in its first of four home games this season. Kickoff is slated for at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 at East Haven High School.
