Essex Corinthian Yacht Club Hosting Seventh Annual Cross Sound Challenge Regatta

The Essex Corinthian Yacht Club (ECYC) is hosting the seventh annual Cross Sound Challenge Regatta on Saturday, Sept. 21. This marks the seventh year that the regatta has been open to cruising and racing boats more than 23.5 feet that have a valid 2019 Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association Performance Racing Handicap Fleet certificate. The event includes spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes.

The starting line will be immediately west of the Saybrook Outer Light. The first signal is at 11 a.m. The course will lead across Long Island Sound and back with the exact course to be determined based the conditions on the day of the regatta. The course is expected to be approximately 15 nautical miles.

A skipper’s meeting will be held on Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. in the ECYC river room at 19 Novelty Lane in Essex. There will be a dinner for the skippers after the meeting. Following the regatta on Sept. 21, the ECYC is hosting a post-race party and awards presentation at the ECYC beginning at 6 p.m.

Boat registration is $40 and party tickets are either $15 per person in advance or $20 at the door. The party will include food, drinks, live music by Take Two, and the quintessential Corinthian camaraderie. The part is open to members from the participating clubs and their friends; sailing in the regatta is not a prerequisite.

Tickets are available at www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=9600 or at www.essexcorinthian.org/ecyc-cross-sound-challenge.html. Moorings are available at a discount by contacting 860-767-8267.
