North Haven 16-U Fall Ball Plays in Labor Day Tourney


The North Haven 16-U fall baseball team began its season by competing in a Labor Day Weekend Tournament that was hosted by The Diamond Zone from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1. North Haven won three games in the tournament to advance to the final, where the team took a 10-1 defeat against the Connecticut Hurricanes.

North Haven started off the double-elimination tournament by posting a 7-4 win over Diamond Zone on Aug. 30. Shaun Murray earned the win in relief by pitching four scoreless innings for North Haven. Owen Pincince went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI and two stolen bases, while Chris Hager went 2-for-2 with two walks, a triple, a run, and an RBI to lead the offense.

In its next game, North Haven lost to the Connecticut Hurricanes by the score of 12-7 on Aug. 31. Pincince went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run, and three RBI. Anthony Acampora went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, Devin Santiago was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI, and Ryan Balzano went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Then on Sept. 1, North Haven opened play by claiming a 6-2 victory versus Diamond Zone in an elimination game. Robert Farrelly allowed two runs in five innings to pick up the win for North Haven. Murray got the save by tossing two scoreless innings to close it out. Anthony Denya went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Derek Novicki was 1-for-3 with two RBI, Santiago went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Pincince was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the win.

Later that day, North Haven squared off against the Gamecocks in another must-win game and prevailed by a 5-2 score to advance to the final. Alex Bauman pitched a complete game to earn the win for North Haven, allowing just two unearned runs. Pincince drew a walk, scored a run, and drove in a run, while Balzano drew two walks to go with a run and an RBI.

Then in the championship game, North Haven took a 10-1 loss to the Connecticut Hurricanes on Sept. 1. Santiago went 3-for-3, and Denya was 2-for-3 with a run scored for North Haven.
