Deep River Horseshoe League Wraps Up the Regular Season

The Deep River Horseshoe League recently finished up its 2019 regular season with Week 19 action. The Yankees secured the top seed in the playoffs by finishing first in the standings following a sweep of the Royals, who finished in second place. The Cubs defeated the Reds by a 5-1 score to take third place and put the Reds in fourth place. The Pirates lost a 5-1 series against the Padres, but still maintained their spot in fifth place.

Mark Goodale of the Yankees totaled a game-high score of 160 to lead the way in the A Division during Week 19 play. The Giants’ Frank Jolly came in second place with a score of 143, while Billy Beckwith of Padres took third with a 133.

In the B Division, Cody Layton of the White Sox earned the highest score by tossing a 102. The Pirates’ Paul Felie and the Yankees’ Todd Nuhn came in a tie for second place with their respective scores of 93.

Substitute player Frank Durinick led the way in the C Division by scoring a 110. The Cubs’ Ted Dubay and Brian Walsh of the Rangers each posted a score of 104 to finish in a tie for second.

The Deep River Horseshoe League’s regular-season standings were finalized with Week 19’s results. The top eight teams qualified for the playoffs, led by the No. 1 seed Yankees with their league-best record of 75-39. The Royals claimed second place with a record of 69-45, the Cubs finished at 67.5-46.5 for third place, the Reds ended the season with a record of 67.5-46.5 to finish fourth, and the Pirates came in fifth place at 66.5-47.5. The Rangers (64.5-49.5) finished sixth, the Astros (62-52) placed seventh, and the White Sox (61.5-52.5) grabbed the last playoff spot by coming in eighth place.

The rest of the standings finished up as follows: Tigers (58-56), Angels (57.5-56.5), Mets (57.5-56.5), Red Sox (56.5-57.5), Dodgers (56-58), Braves (54-60), Giants (50.5-63.5), Padres (49-65), Orioles (45.5-68.5), Cardinals (45-69), Marlins (42.5-71.5), and Indians (34.5-79.5).

The Deep River Horseshoe League has 20 teams that feature three players of each of the A, B, and C divisions. The league plays every Thursday night on the First Congregational Green in Deep River and welcomes anyone to come watch its contests. For info, visit deepriverhorseshoes.com.
