Royals Trying to Pull Away in Deep River Horseshoe League


The Royals increased their first-place lead in Week 15 action in the Deep River Horseshoe League. The Royals moved to a four-game lead for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with a 5-1 win over the Marlins. The Yankees defeated the Astros to maintain second place, and the Astros dropped from third place to fifth. The Reds continued their climb and moved into third place, and the Pirates are in fourth.

Division A player Mike Zanelli, Sr., of the Rangers claimed first place, tossing a game-high score of 162. Khris Toohey of the Pirates came in second with a score of 161. Mark Goodale of the Yankess threw a 128 to come in third place.

In the B Division, Jeff Fitzpatrick of the Cardinals had the highest tally at 116. The Dodgers’ Mike Zanelli, Jr., came second with a score of 115. Todd Nuhn of the Yankeess scored a 101 for third place.

The Rangers’ Brian Walsh and Frank Durinick tied for first place in the C Division by each posting score of 102. The Royals’ Joe Machado snagged second place with a score of 95.

In Week 15 play, the Royals are in first place at 61-29. The Yankees (57-33) maintain second place for the time being with 1.5 game lead over the third-place Reds, who are 55.5-34.5 tied with the Pirates. The Astros (54.5-35.5) moved into fifth place, and the Mets are in sixth place at 48.5-41.5. The Tigers (48.5-41.5) are in seventh place, and the Cubs (47.5-42.5) are in eighth.

Here are the rest of the standings: Dodgers (47.5-42.5), Rangers (47-43), White Sox (46-44), Red Sox (44.5-41), Angels (43.5-46.5), Braves (41.5-48.5), Orioles (37-53), Padres (36-54), Giants (35.5-54.5), Marlins (35.5-54.5), Cardinals (34-56), and Indians (24-66).
