The Madison Junior American Legion baseball team won three games in the face of elimination to advance to the next phase of the State Tournament. After dropping its opening contest against Westport, Post 79 recorded a win versus Stamford and then claimed two victories over Westport to win the Southern Division Sectional portion of the tournament and move on to the Bethel Regional part of the bracket. Madison has an overall record of 22-9 on the year.

Madison started off states as the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination Southern Division Sectional. In its first game, Post 79 took a 3-0 loss to No. 2 seed Westport at the Surf Club on July 23. With its back against the wall, Madison notched a 5-2 road win over top-seeded Stamford at Cubetta Stadium on July 24. Then on July 28, Madison had to win two games against Westport in order to advance to the next part of the draw. Post 79 notched a 6-2 victory in the first game and then defeated Westport by a 5-1 final in a winner-take-all matchup in the second game at Town Campus Field.

Madison is competing in the single-elimination Bethel Regional portion of the State Tournament at Bethel High School this week. Post 79 is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Hamden at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. With a win, Post 79 would face the winner of No. 1 seed Wallingford and No. 4 Tri-County in the regional final on Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. The winner of the Bethel Regional advances to the State Championship Game that will take place at Ceppa Field in Meriden at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.
