Royals Take a Big Series to Stay in First Place

The Royals still control the top spot in the standings following Week 14 action in the Deep River Horseshoe League. The Royals maintained a three-game lead for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, although the rest of the field saw some major shakeups. The Yankees moved into second place, the Astros held on to third, and the Reds moved up two spots into fourth place.

Division A player Cris Christensen of the Astros outpaced the competition again in Week 14 by tossing a game-high score of 145. Frank Jolly of the Giants came in second place by scoring a 138. The Rangers’ Mike Zanelli, Sr., totaled a 137 to take third place.

In the B Division, Mike Zanelli, Jr., of the Dodgers turned in the highest score with a 112, while Paul Felie of the Pirates earned second place at 109. Warren Bellows of the Mets scored a 94 for third place.

Brian Walsh of the Rangers grabbed first place in the C Division by posting score of 103. The Cubs’ Ted Dubay snagged second place with a score of 90. Paul Stevens of the Tigers tallied a score of 88 to claim third place.

In Week 14 play, the first-place Royals took four games from the Reds to improve to 56-28 and keep their three-game lead for the top spot in the standings. The Yankees (53-31) moved up to second with a sweep of the Cardinals that came via forfeit. The Astros stayed in third place with a record of 52.5-31.5 after taking five games from White Sox. The Reds (51-33) are now in fourth place in the league standings. The Pirates (49.5-34.5) moved into fifth place, one game ahead of the sixth-place Tigers (48.5-35.5). The Mets (47.5-36.5) are in seventh place, and the Cubs (44.5-39.5) moved into eighth place.

Here are the rest of the standings: White Sox (43-41), Red Sox (43-41), Rangers (42-42), Dodgers (41.5-42.5), Angels (39.5-44.5), Braves (39.5-44.5), Orioles (35-49), Giants (34.5-49.5), Marlins (34.5-49.5), Padres (32-52), Cardinals (29-55), and Indians (24-60).
