Huskies 19-U Sweeps Doubleheader; 15-U Gets a Victory

19-U

The Clinton Huskies 19-U AAU baseball team played a doubleheader against CT Hank’s Yanks last week and scored victories in both contests. The two wins bumped the Huskies’ record to 9-1 on the season.

In the first contest, the Huskies were led by a complete-game shutout from pitcher John Urban en route to a 4-0 victory. Urban had six strikeouts and allowed just four hits with no walks.

Clinton pushed its first runs across the plate in the fourth inning. Madden Ward got on base with a walk and then Ray Seward walked, as well. After that, Spencer Buckley drove both runners in on a double for a 2-0 advantage. In the fifth inning, Nick Caprio walked and scored on an error after Urban hit a double. Then in the sixth inning, Seward singled, stole second, and went the third on a passed ball. Urban proceeded to score on another passed ball.

In the second game, the Huskies’ offense led the way to a 10-2 victory. Seward got the win on the mound by pitching five innings with six strikeouts.

The Huskies got the scoring started in the first inning. Madden Ward was hit by a pitch and stole second. Seward followed with a walk, and then both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Trevor Follo walked to load the bases, after which Caprio drove in two runs with a base hit. Mike Zingarella brought home another run on a fielder’s choice, and then Anthony Mongillo got on base via an error to score another run and make it 4-0.

In the second inning, AJ Fritz singled, stole second, and then ended up on third thanks to a double from Madden Ward. Seward drove in Fritz with a sacrifice fly, and then Spencer Buckley got a base hit to drive in Ward. In the third, Zingarella drove home two runs with a base hit. Then in the fourth inning, Ward reached on an error, went to second on a passed ball, and later scored when Follo hit into a fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Fritz led off with a base hit, Ward hit a double, and then Fritz scored on a sacrifice fly by Ray Seward.

15-U

The Clinton Huskies 15-U AAU squad posted a recent victory after taking a pair of losses earlier in the week. With these results, the Clinton’s record moved to 5-9 on the year.

On July 14, Clinton dropped two games against the CT Cougars. In the first game, the Huskies lost by a score of 4-1. In the second game, the Cougars prevailed by a 14-2 final.

Two days later, the Huskies hosted the TCB Knights and notched a 6-4 victory. Brady Fritz threw a complete game with nine strikeouts for the Huskies.
