Hand Athletics Takes CT Sports Now Vantage Cup

The Daniel Hand High School athletics program recently won the CT Sports Now Vantage Cup by virtue of its excellent performance throughout the 2018-’19 school year. The recipient of the Vantage Cup was determined by a point system that was based on the success of Connecticut high school athletic programs in the CIAC State tournaments and State championship meets during the academic year. The Tigers scored 1,020 points to finish ahead of runner-up Greenwich, which tallied 982 points, to win the award.

Hand continued to fill up its trophy case on its way to claiming this year’s Vantage Cup. The Tigers won state championships in football, boys’ soccer, and girls’ swimming and diving during the fall season, in addition to taking state championships for boys’ golf and girls’ tennis in the spring. Hand also saw its girls’ basketball team and its boys’ swimming and diving team finished as the runner-up in their respective state competitions.

“Hand is very proud of this accomplishment. The accomplishment represents the commitment, hard work, and dedication by our athletes through our coaching staff and the support we receive from our administration and community,” Hand Athletic Director Craig Semple said. “This award demonstrates excellence in athletics from a comprehensive lens. It’s a credit to the schedules we play from the SCC and non-conference competition. Our athletes are prepared to play the best in the state when the opportunity presents itself. As director of athletics, I am certainly very proud of how our student-athletes represent our great town of Madison.”
