Shoreline Cougars Move to 6-5 on the Year


The Shoreline Cougars 19-U AAU baseball team came away with one win while playing a pair of doubleheaders in East Shore Travel League action last week. The Cougars now have a record of 6-5 on the season.

On July 9, the Cougars squared off against the Clinton Huskies in a doubleheader at the Indian River Complex in Clinton. Shoreline dropped the first game by a 7-3 score and then took a 1-0 defeat in the nightcap.

In the first contest, the Cougars fell behind when the Huskies put six runs on the board in the top of the second inning. Clinton added another run in the fourth inning. The Cougars fought back in the bottom of the seventh to draw the closer, but were unable to complete the comeback. Ryan Kehlenbach supplied three hits for Shoreline, while Sam Erskine and Cavan Burrell each had one hit.

In the second game, the Huskies scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning and then hung on for the win.

On July 13, the Cougars headed to Rice Field to face the Dom Aitro Rookies and gained a split of a doubleheader. In the first game, Shoreline dropped an 8-4 decision. The Rookies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and then put single runs on the board in both the second and third. The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but the Rookies came back with two more runs in the bottom of the frame. The Cougars scored the final two runs of the game in the fifth inning. Kehlenbach, Erskine, and Alex Sheehan each had a hit for Shoreline

In the nightcap, the Cougars secured a lopsided 12-2 win against the Rookies. The Cougars got out to a hot start by plating 11 runs in the first inning. The game was called after the top of the fourth inning due to the mercy rule. Erskine had a hit with two RBI for the Cougars, who saw Sheehan earn the win on the mound.
