The Clinton Huskies 19u AAU baseball team added three more wins last week on a slate of four games. With these results, Clinton moved its record to 7-1 on the year.

On July 7, the Huskies played a doubleheader against the Technique Tigers at the Indian River Complex. Clinton lost the first game by a 3-1 final score after the Tigers put three runs up in the seventh inning.

The Huskies were the first to score with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ryan Inglis drove Mike Zingarella. The Tigers were able to take the two-run lead in the seventh after pitcher Clinton pitch John Urban left the game pitching six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. The Huskies had several miscues in the seventh that led to the loss.

Clinton split the doubleheader with a 3-0 win in the nightcap. The Huskies got their first run in the second inning when Mike Menacho walked and Nick Caprio doubled to put runners at second and third. Menacho scored on a ground ball from Zingarella. In the fourth inning, AJ Fritz and Trevor Follow each singled. Ray Seward had a base hit after that to drive in Fritz and put Follo at third. Then Spencer Buckley dropped a squeeze bunt to bring in Follo.

Seward pitched a complete game shutout with nine Ks.

Two days later, the Huskies played a doubleheader against the Shoreline Cougars and took home wins in both games. In the first game, the Huskies won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel thanks to Connor Derry’s complete game shut out on 97 pitches with 12 Ks. Clinton got their lone run with a Caprio walk and a Zingarella walk. A fly ball to left to moved Caprio to third base and Inglis brought him in with a sacrifice fly.

In the second game, the Huskies outpaced the Cougars by a score of 7-3. Clinton scored six runs in the second inning to put the game away early. Fritz, Follo, Menacho, Urban, Inglis, and Derry all had base knocks in the second. In the fourth, Fritz scored a run on a base hit from Seward.

Fritz pitched 6.2 innings and had a 65-pitch shutout going into the seventh, but he ran out of gas. Fritz ended up getting the win but didn’t record the final out of the game.

15u

The Clinton Huskies 15u team were only able to get in a single contest last week due some sporadically bad weather. The Huskies dropped their only game and moved their record to 3-8 on the year.

On July 11, Clinton lost a 4-3 battle against West Haven Junior Legion. Brady Fritz threw six innings and gave up two runs. Garret Garbinski finished off the game. Clinton had some defensive miscues during the game that proved pivotal in the loss.
