The East Haven Senior American Legion baseball team lost four contests last week and is now 0-14 in Zone 2 action this summer. East Haven was swept by Madison in a three-game weekend series and then lost a tight game against Branford in last week’s matchups.

On June 29, East Haven lost both ends of a doubleheader with Madison. The 89ers took a 3-0 defeat in the first game and lost the second game by a 20-4 score. Jake Marquardt pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for East Haven in the opening game. Frank Camera drew three walks at the plate. In the second game, Madison put together a big fifth inning to run away with the victory.

On June 30, East Haven was edged out by Madison by a 10-9 score in the last game of the series. East Haven had two runners on with two outs in the seventh inning, but Madison’s pitcher got out of the jam. Mark Smith hit a three-run home run and had four RBI on the day for East Haven. Anthony Buffone had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run.

East Haven returned to the field on July 6, when the 89ers took a 6-5 defeat versus Branford. Once again, East Haven had runners on base in the seventh inning, but was unable to push the tying run across. Matt Lisko had two hits and two RBI, while Camera hit a sacrifice fly and scored two runs for the 89ers. Head Coach Chuck Hinckley added that catcher Mike Streeto played an outstanding game behind the plate.
