Branford Junior Legion Takes a Few Defeats; Prep Legion Gets First Win

Junior Legion Baseball

The Branford Junior American Legion baseball team was recently swept by Zone 2 opponent Wallingford in a three-game series that took place on June 22-23. Post 83 has a record of 0-7 on the season.

On June 22, Branford lost both ends of a road doubleheader against Wallingford by dropping a 3-0 decision and taking an 18-2 defeat. In the opener, Jack Van Gelder turned in a solid outing on the mound for Post 83. Van Gelder allowed just one earned run and struck out six batters in taking a hard-luck loss. Branford’s offense was held to one hit by Dom Bonanno. For the second game, Van Gelder drew two walks and scored a run, Marc Cilillo also had two walks, and Bonnanon added a hit.

The following day, Branford took an 10-2 home loss to Wallingford. AJ Bruchman gave up just six hits and had seven strikeouts for Post 83. Bonanno and Givner had one hit apiece.

Prep Legion Baseball

Branford hosted Wilton on June 25 and notched a 7-2 victory. Post 83 improved to 1-5 on the year with the win.

Senior Legion Baseball

The Post 83 Seniors traveled to Wallingford for a Zone 2 matchup on June 24 and lost a 9-7 decision at Pat Wall Field. Branford moved to 6-3 in Zone 2 action with the defeat. Zach Vandale and Eddie Zanor had two hits apiece for Branford.
