89ers Lose Two Close Contests

The East Haven Senior American Legion baseball team lost a pair of narrow decisions at home last week. The 89ers took a 6-4 defeat against Meriden and then dropped a 7-5 to Hamden to move to 0-10 on the year.

On June 23, East Haven lost to Meriden by the final score of 6-4. Gabe Longley threw a quality game on the mound to keep East Haven in the game, but the 89ers were unable to break through at the dish. Steve Mingione had three hits and a pair of RBI, while Frank Camera hit a double and had a sacrifice fly in the loss.

The following evening, the 89ers took a 7-5 loss versus Hamden at East Haven High School. Jon Crisci got the start and pitched 4.1 innings for East Haven, after which Jake Marquardt threw 2.2 innings of relief. Head Coach Chuck Hinckley said that both pitchers gave the 89ers a quality effort on the hill. Offensive, Mark Smith had three hits, including a double, to go with three RBI for the 89ers, who also saw Gianni Mumford get an RBI, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI.
