Sweeney Places 18th at State Decathlon for H-K Boys’ Track


Eamon Sweeney represented the Haddam-Killingworth boys’ outdoor track team when he competed at the CIAC Decathlon that was held at Manchester High School on June 11-12. Sweeney finished in 18th place at the decathlon by scoring 4,826 points at the meet.

On the first day of the event, Sweeney finished in a tied for 14th in the high jump by clearing 5 feet-6 inches to go with a 19th-place performance in the long jump behind a leap of 18 feet-7 inches. Sweeney also finished 28th for the shot put (32-5), 29th in the 400-meter dash (56.41) seconds), and tied for 53rd in the 100 (12.36).

On the second day of the decathlon, Sweeney claimed 11th place in both the javelin (122-1) and the pole vault (9-0.25). He also finished 15th in the 1,500-meter run (5:10.06), 16th for the 110 high hurdles (17.10), and 18th in the discus (81-6) on his way to placing 18th overall.
