Grace Hanratty Wins the 800 at the Open; Old Saybrook Golf Finishes Tied for 6th in States

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Old Saybrook girls’ outdoor track team had a handful of athletes represent them at the State Open at Willow Brook Park on June 3. Junior Grace Hanratty took home the gold in the 800-meter run to mark the team’s best finish on the day, but other athletes earned some solid finishes as well. Old Saybrook took 15th place overall as a team with 15 points.

Hanratty clocked in at 2:12.33 for her first-place finish in the 800 to score 10 points for the Rams.

Cate Coppes grabbed four points for the Rams with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault when she cleared a height of 10 feet-6 inches. In the 1,600, Coppes came in eighth place with a time of 5:07.42 to notch a point for Old Saybrook. Coppes also finished 16th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.90 seconds. Rachel Vigorita tied for 19th place in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet-10 inches.

Old Saybrook’s 4x800 quartet of Allison Cody, Caitlin Wiley, Libby Stuart, and Emily Stratton came in 20th place with a time of 10:17.7.

Later in the week, Hanratty and Coppes headed to the New England Interscholastic Championship Meet in Saco, Maine on June 8. Coppes competed in the pole vault and claimed fourth place with a height of 10 feet-9inches. Hanratty earned a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:14.27.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

Rams’ boys’ track also had representation at the Open. The team scored seven points and came in 31st place.

Junior Luke Hanratty came in fifth place in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:56.15 to notch four points for Old Saybrook. Senior Shane Henderson took sixth place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:20.45, and scored three points for the Rams. In the 300 hurdles, junior Cooper Luciani came in 13th place with a time of 41.90.

Then on June 8, Henderson and Hanratty competed at New Englands. Henderson took fourth place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:19.87. Hanratty came in 13th in the 800 with his time of 2:00.10.

Golf

Old Saybrook competed in the Division IV State Tournament at Tallwood Country Club on June 3. The Rams tied for sixth place with Holy Cross with a score of 338, or +50.

Jack Walsh turned in Old Saybrook’s best score at 82, which tied him for 19th place individually. Matt Rothman tied for 25th place with his tally of 83, while Brady Garrett tied for 36th with a total of 85 strokes. Be O’Dell tied for 48th at a score of 88, and Garrett Hilger tied for 97th with a score of 113.
