H-K Track Represents at State Open, Jennings Places 2nd in 1,600 at New Englands

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ outdoor track team saw several athletes compete the State Open Championship that took place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 3. The Cougars scored four points and finished in a tie for 43rd place at the meet.

Matt Jennings the four points for H-K by finishing fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes and 20.06 seconds. Seth Regan took 15th place for the 200 by timing in at 22.83 seconds. Luke Sodergren qualified for the 110 high hurdles and placed 20th in the preliminaries at 16.46. Tyler Knapp tied for 18th place in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet for the Cougars. H-K’s 4x800 relay of Christian Uzwiak, Seth Freeman, Kyle Criscuolo, and Michael Coleman finished in 20th place with a time of 8:34.19.

On June 8, Jennings competed in the 1,600 at the New England Championship and earned runner-up honors in the event. Jennings took second place by running a time of 4:19.13 at the regional meet, which was held at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine. Jennings only placed behind Joseph dosReis La Salle Academy, who ran a time of 4:14.34.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Cougars were represented by some athletes at the State Open Championship last week.

Emma Anziano took 12th place the 1,600 by running a time of 5:18.20 for Haddam-Killingworth. The Cougars’ 4x800 relay team of Hailey Cassidy, Julia Callis, Brianna Minervino, and Lauren D’Amico finished 24th with a mark of 10:22.10.

Golf

H-K finished in 15th place at the Division III State Championship last week. The Cougars tallied a team score of 371 on the par-72 Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton on June 4.

Jackson Houde turned in a round of 91 to finish in a tie for 44th place for H-K. Andrew Kuehn and teammate Greg Lynskey finished in a tie for 48th place after both golfers shot a score of 93. Carter Chase, who birdied on the third hole, finished with a 94 and tied for 56th place. Colby Pendleton came in 65th place with a score of 97.
