Guilford’s Lacrosse Teams Lose in Class M Semis; Golf Ties for 8th at States

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Guilford girls’ lacrosse team saw its tremendous 2019 season come to a close with a loss to St. Joseph in the Class M State Tournament semifinals last week.

The top-seeded Indians took a 14-10 defeat against No. 13 seed St. Joseph in the Class M semis at Cheshire High School on June 3. The game was tied at 6-6 entering the second half, where St. Joseph outscored the Indians by an 8-4 margin to come away with the victory and advance to the final.

Guilford finished its campaign with a program-best record of 18-3 this spring. After going 14-2 during the regular season, the Indians won their first outright SCC Tournament title in team history and then and made the semifinals of the Class M State Tournament for the second-straight campaign.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Indians dropped a contest against New Fairfield in the semifinal round of the Class M State Tournament last week.

No. 4 seed Guilford battled top-seeded New Farifield in the Class M semifinals and lost by a 17-7 score at Fairfield University on June 5. The Indians completed their 2019 season with an overall record of 16-5. Guilford also advanced to the SCC Tournament final this year.

Golf

The Indians finished in a tie with Masuk for eighth place at the Division II State Championship on June 3. Both teams totaled identical scores of 348 on the par-71 Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.

Noah Kosh led the Indians with a round of 84 to finish in a tie for 26th place. Miguel Pearce turned in an 86 to finish tied for 32nd for Guilford. Kyle Richard finished with a score of 87 to come in tied for 38th place, while John Kosh tied for 59th with a round of 91. Shea Thibault scored a 93 and finished in a tie for 66th place.

Boys’ Tennis

Gianni Esposito competed on behalf of the Indians at the State Open Championship that took place at Wesleyan University from June 2-5.

In the first round of the singles tournament, Esposito defeated Eric Stein of Staples by the final score of 6-4, 6-2. In quarterfinals, Esposito lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Nicholas Condos from Wilton.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Indians had two athletes compete at the State Open Championship that was held at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 3.

Meredith Bloss placed 10th in the 3,200 with a time of 11 minutes and 12.42 seconds for Guilford. Zoe McClure finished 20th for the triple jump by recording a leap of 32 feet-10 inches.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

Connor Rose represented Guilford at the State Open Championship last week. Rose placed 24th in the discus throw by launching a toss of 113 feet-4 inches at the Open.
