Easties See Three Athletes Compete at the Open

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The East Haven girls’ outdoor track team sent two athletes to compete at State Open Championship that took place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 3.

Sophomore Kisha Francois competed in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash and finished in 12th place by running a time of 12.66 seconds for East Haven. Francois had previously finished second in the 100 at the SCC West Sectional Championship, the SCC Championship, and the Class MM State Championship. She also won the long jump for the second-straight year at sectionals with a leap of 17-1.5 inches and then placed second in the event at SCCs.

Also at the Open, junior Bella Ragaini finished 23rd in the javelin with a throw of 87 feet-4 inches for East Haven. Ragaini had won the javelin at the West Sectional meet (102-8) and the Class MM meet (103-8) to go with a fifth-place finish in SCCs.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

Senior Evan Damian ran the 110 high hurdles for the Yellowjackets at last week’s State Open Championship. Damian finished in 19th place for the preliminaries of the event by clocking in with a time of 16.39 seconds.

Earlier in the postseason, Damian won the 110 hurdles at SCC West Sectional Championship with a time of 15.50 seconds. He went on to finish third in the event at the SCC Championship and finished in fifth place at the Class MM State Championship.
