Rams’ Girls’ Lacrosse Takes Defeat in Shoreline Final; Baseball, Softball Loses in States

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook girls’ lacrosse team had a Shoreline Conference Tournament final game against North Branford last week before moving onto the Class S State Tournament. The Rams lost their finals face off with North Branford at the Indian River Complex by a score of 8-6 on May 23.

Then in the first round of states, the No. 6 seed Rams dropped a 15-11 home contest versus 11th-seeded East Catholic on May 28.

Old Saybrook finished the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 14-5.

Baseball

The Old Saybrook team played in the Class S State Tournament last week, opening with a first round home contest versus Shoreline Conference foe, Old Lyme. The Rams lost to Old Lyme and finished the season with a final overall record of 12-10.

On May 29, the Rams hosted the Wildcats and took a 4-2 home defeat. Both teams came out swinging in the first inning with Old Lyme scoring a run in the top of the first and the Rams responding with a pair in the bottom of the frame for a 2-1 advantage. Old Lyme had a big inning in the third, putting up three runs to take a 4-2 lead that it would not relinquish.

Senior catcher Patrick Kelley had a pair of hits and a run, while Jack Coella supplied a base hit and an RBI. Dan Cote provided a hit and an RBI, and he also pitched 2.2 innings on the mound with six strikeouts. Also appearances were Toby Marineau who threw 3.1 innings and struck out four batters. Jaden Rolon also threw a scoreless inning of work.

Softball

The Rams played a pair of playoff contests last week as part of the Shoreline Conference and Class S State Tournaments. Old Saybrook lost in both of its matchups and finished the season with a final overall record of 8-14.

On May 23, the No. 8 seed Rams faced off with No. 1 seed Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinal. Old Saybrook took a 12-0 road loss against the Warriors in five innings.

On May 29, the Rams took on Holy Cross in the first round of the Class S State Tourney. The No. 30 seed Old Saybrook headed to Waterbury to take on the 3rd-seeded Holy Cross and lost a 16-1 contest.

Golf

The Rams played a pair of regular season matches last week. Old Saybrook picked up two more wins in those matches to move to an 11-5 record on the season.

On May 28, the Rams headed to the Black Hall Club to face off against Old Lyme. Old Saybrook beat the Wildcats by a final tally of 170-185.

The next day, the Rams were at Great Neck Country Club, where they picked up a 167-177 road victory over Waterford.
