H-K Girls’ Track Takes 3rd at Shorelines; Softball, Boys’ Lacrosse Lose in Conference Tourney

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ outdoor track team came third place at the Shoreline Conference Championship last week. The Cougars scored 107 points in the meet at Coginchaug High School on May 22.

H-K’s 4x800 relay team of Emma Anziano, Julia Callis, Hailey Cassidy, and Amanda Minervino finished first with a time of 9:50.35. Minervino also placed first in the javelin by throwing 109 feet-10 inches.

Anziano finished second for the 800 (2:22.83), and Cassidy took fifth (2:33.95). Anziano also placed third in the 1,600 (5:14.20), while Meara Bodak finished fifth in the 3,200 (12:34.76). Autumn Coady was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles with a 16.80, and Sadie Strom came in third at 17.41. Coady also claimed second place in the 300 hurdles (48.14).

The Cougars’ 4x400 relay of Coady, Elena Boyington, Callis, and Ashley Duncanson finished second (4:18.31); and the 4x100 relay of Boyington, Coady, Ly-Linh Criscuolo, and Duncanson took third (53.19).

Gabby Lester earned second place for the shot put (30-8.5) with Gabriella Wyzykowski finishing fifth (27-4.75). Lester was fifth in the discus (75-0), and Minervino followed in sixth (68-11). Reilly Jenkins placed sixth in the javelin (89-5) for H-K. In the pole vault, Morgan Schultz took fifth place (7-6), while Sally Pizzuto finished seventh (6-6).

Softball

The Cougars completed their regular season and then took a loss Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinals last week. Haddam-Killingworth (13-8) is competing in the Class M State Tournament this week.

H-K claimed 12-3 victory over Bolton on May 19. Shannon Nelson had four hits and four RBI, while Faith Mauri also had four hits, including two doubles and a triple. Brooke LaTouche picked up the win in the circle for the Cougars.

On May 21, H-K took a 4-0 loss to Valley Regional. The next day, the Cougars posted a 9-5 win against Woodstock Academy to finish at 13-7 for the regular season.

H-K entered the Shoreline Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed. The Cougars traveled to No. 3 North Branford for a quarterfinal game on May 23 and took 7-6 loss in eight innings.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Cougars lost a contest against Morgan in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week. No. 4 see H-K traveled to top-seeded Morgan and dropped a 10-9 decision in the Shoreline semis on May 21. With their overall record of 11-6, the Cougars will open play in the Class S State Tournament this week.

Golf

H-K finished the regular season at 5-10 after earning a 177-209 victoru over East Hampton on May 21. H-K will compete in the Division III State Championship at Fairview Farms Golf Course on Tuesday, June 4 at 8:30 a.m.
