H-K Baseball, Boys’ Lacrosse Competing in Shorelines This Week

Baseball

The Haddam-Killingworth baseball team concluded its regular season with a strong record of 14-6 after splitting its two matchups last week. The Cougars will next compete in the Shoreline Conference Tournament that gets underway this week.

The Cougars defeated Ellington by the final score of 10-8 on May 14. Alec Erskine (3 hits), Griffin Izzo (2 hits, 3 RBI), and Darren Hiller (2 hits) led the way for H-K’s offense in the victory. Jon Civiello hit a two-run homer in the second inning for the Cougars.

On May 18, H-K squared off against Coventry in its regular-season finale and took a 1-0 loss. Alec Erskine had the Cougars’ lone hit.

H-K is the No. 2 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and hosted a quarterfinal game on May 20 (after press time) The winner moves on to the semifinals on Tuesday, May 21. The final will be held on Friday, May 24 at Palmer Field in Middletown at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Lacrosse

H-K finished the regular season at 11-5 overall and now gets ready for the Shoreline Conference Tournament.

The Cougars edged out Valley Regional by a 10-9 margin on May 14 to pick up their seventh-straight win. H-K made it eight in a row with an 18-4 victory against Cromwell on May 15. On May 16, H-K took an 8-5 loss to Morgan. The Cougars bounced back quickly with a 13-3 triumph over Vinal-Goodwin Tech the next day.

The Cougars are competing in the Shoreline Conference Tournament this week. H-K was on the road to face Morgan (10-6) in a semifinal round rematch at Indian River Complex in Clinton on May 21 (after press time). The winner advances to the final at that same site on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Cougars completed their campaign with a record of 2-14 after taking two defeats last week.

H-K dropped a 20-8 contest against Valley Regional on May 14. In their season finale, the Cougars took an 18-9 loss to Morgan on May 16.

Girls’ Tennis

H-K earned a win over Portland to go with a few defeats last week. The Cougars posted a record of 4-16 on the year.

On May 15, H-K played a doubleheader against Old Saybrook and lost to the Rams by 4-3 and 5-2 scores. The next day, H-K defeated Portland by a 5-2 final. The Cougars then lost a 6-1 match to East Hampton/Hale-Ray on May 17. In its final contest, H-K took a 7-0 defeat to Old Lyme on May 18.

Boys’ Tennis

H-K lost a few matches during the last week of its season and finished with a record of 2-16.

H-K dropped a 4-3 decision to East Hampton on May 14. The next day, the Cougars took two defeats versus Old Saybrook, losing to the Rams by 6-1 and 4-3 finals. On May 16, H-K lost to Old Lyme by a 7-0 score in its last match of the season.

Golf

H-K moved to 4-10 on the season after losing two matchups last week.

The Cougars took a 157-200 defeat to Portland on May 15. The following day, H-K lost a 177-189 match against Hale-Ray.
