Old Saybrook Golf Wins Pair of Matches; Boys’ Tennis Headed to State Championship

Golf

The Old Saybrook golf team played in two matches last week and won both of them. The victories bumped the Ram’s record up to 6-5 on the season.

On May 8, Old Saybrook won a 156-179 road contest versus Haddam-Killingworth at the Black Birch Golf Club in East Haddam.

The next day, the Rams picked up a 156-209 home win over East Hampton at Fenwick Golf Course. Both teams played a par-35 course with a 34.2 rating.

Junior Ben O’Dell took home medalist honors on the day with his score of 37. In a close second was fellow junior Jack Walsh who tallied just one stroke more with 38. Sophomore Matt Rothman turned in a 40 on his scorecard in the win, while fellow sophomore Garrett Brady had a match total of 41. Garrett Hilger finished with a score of 59.

Baseball

The Rams lost both of the contests on their slate last week. With the losses, Old Saybrook’s record drops to 9-7 on the season.

On May 8, the Rams headed to Old Lyme where they took a 6-3 defeat against the Wildcats. Old Saybrook scored a run in the top of the first, but in the bottom of the frame, Old Lyme put a three-spot on the board for a 3-1 advantage. The Rams got a run back in the top of the second, but gave it right back to trail 4-2 after two innings. The Rams scored again in the third to narrow the margin to 4-3, but Old Lyme added two more in the sixth and held on for the 6-3 win.

Jaden Rolon was 2-for-3 with a run, while Jack Colella had a hit and a run scored. Patrick Kelley went 2-for-2 and scored a run. Davis Brown drove in a run, and Dan Cote and Toby Marineau each had a base hit.

The next day, the Rams were at Portland and took a 12-5 road loss to the Highlanders. Portland staked an early lead with 6-1 lead by the second inning. Old Saybrook got a run in the fourth, but the Highlanders scored two in the bottom of the inning and had a 9-2 lead as they cruised to the 12-5 win.

Rolon had a hit and a run, while Brown provided a hit, a run, and two RBI. Nick Condulis supplied a hit and an RBI. Gabe Kaar notched a hit, while Mason Wilcox walked and came around to score a run.

Softball

Old Saybrook had three games on the schedule last week and lost all three. The defeats moved the Rams; record to 4-11 on the season.

On May 6, Old Saybrook took a 13-7 road defeat against East Hampton. On May 8, the Rams headed to Old Lyme where they took a 10-2 loss against the Wildcats. The next day, Old Saybrook dropped a 15-1 home decision against St. Bernard.

Boys’ Tennis

The Rams played had a slate of two matches last week and won both of them to move to 9-3 on the year. With the wins, Old Saybrook has won 50 percent of its matches this season and had earned a spot in the Class S State Championships.

On May 7, the Rams scored a 6-1 road victory at Valley Regional. Two days later, Old Saybrook earned a 5-2 home win versus Old Lyme to punch its ticket to states.

Girls’ Tennis

Old Saybrook had just a single match on last week’s schedule and lost the contest. The defeat drops the Rams’ record to 5-8 on the year.

On May 7, Old Saybrook hosted a match versus Valley Regional and took a 7-0 home loss against the Warriors.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook girls’ lacrosse squad played three games last week and took home a pair of wins. With these results, the Rams’ record moved to 11-3 on the year.

On May 7, Old Saybrook played host to Valley Regional and defeated the Warriors by a score of 22-12. Two days later, the Rams headed to the Indian River Complex to take on Morgan, where they defeated the Huskies in a 19-9 road victory. On May 10, Old Saybrook lost a 13-11 road matchup against Stonington.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook boys’ lacrosse team had a slate of three games last week and won one of them. The Rams’ record moved to 2-11 with the week’s results.

On May 7, Old Saybrook headed to Deep River and took a 16-1 road loss against Valley Regional. The next day, the Rams lost a 12-0 road contest versus Vinal-Goodwin. On May 9, Old Saybrook hosted Morgan and dropped a 10-3 home game versus the Huskies.
