Neviaser Commits to Play Division I Football at Stetson University

Essex resident Ian Neviaser, Jr., a 2018 graduate of Valley Regional High School, has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I football at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. After earning All-State, All-Area, and All-Pequot Conference honors as an offensive lineman for the Valley Regional-Old Lyme football team, the 6-foot-5, 295-pound Neviaser chose to continue his athletic and academic career as a postgraduate student-athlete at Avon Old Farms in Avon. As a member of the school’s football team, Neviaser helped the Winged Beavers earn a 7-2 record as their starting center. After considering offers from UConn, UMass, Elon University, Maine, and Rhode Island, Neviaser chose Stetson University for its athletic and academic reputation.

“My goal has always been to play Division 1 football in the south. To have the opportunity to do just that at such a strong academic institution is very exciting,” Neviaser said. “I am grateful for all the support from my coaches at Valley and Avon and especially for the support from my family.”

Stetson, which finished with a record of 8-2 last season, competes in the Pioneer Football League as part of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Neviaser will begin his career as a student-athlete at Stetson in August.
