On March 29, the Old Saybrook Parks and Recreation (OSPR) Department held its annual Basketball Tournament, which was a free event for all Teen Center members. Six teams made up of 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-graders participated in a random-seeded, double-elimination style tournament. Each team played at least two games. The players formed the rosters and came up with their team’s names. All of the games were seven minutes with each basket counting as one point.

The team Lets Go FLUTES of Bradley Kulmann and Ajdin Cecunjanin won the tournament. Lets Go FLUTES was undefeated going into its matchup against The Dynamic Duo of Jack Forrest and Felipe de Moura in the best-of-3 championship series. Lets Go FLUTES narrowly escaped defeat in the first game, winning by a single basket. The second game was just the opposite as the Dynamic Duo won by only one point. In the decisive final game, Kulmann hit the winning basket to lift Lets Go FLUTES to the championship of the 2019 OSPR Basketball Tournament.

OSPR thanks all the players who participated in this year’s tournament. For info on OSPR, visit www.oldsaybrookrec.com.
