Printer Friendly Version - Warriors’ Baseball, Girls’ Tennis Both Take Two; Golf Gets Campaign Underway

The Valley Regional baseball team earned two wins in two games on last week’s slate. The victories move Head Coach Brian Drinkard’s squad to a 7-4 record so far on the campaign.

On April 24, the Warriors grabbed a 9-8 home win against Hale-Ray thanks to some solid offense. Jake Robertson led the way at the dish going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. Robertson also picked up the win on the mound to move to 3-1 on the year. Kyle Metz, Josh Ross, and Ben Conrad had two hits apiece in the win.

The next day, Valley scored a 6-2 road win at East Hampton. Freshman James Marsden earned his second win on the mound for the Warriors. Ross went 2-for3 with two RBI. Robertson and Nate Robida added two hits each.

The Valley Regional golf team opened its season last week with three matches and earned a win in one of them. These early results put the Warriors’ record at 1-2 on the campaign.

On April 23, Valley hosted a North Branford at the Black Hall Club in Old Lyme and secured a 236-254 victory over the Thunderbirds.

Jake Castalano scored the lowest game for the Warriors with a tally of 53. Sam Craco turned in a total of 55, while Henry McPherson shot a 58 on the day. Logan Bellos scored 70 to round out Valley’s results.

On April 25, Valley took a tough 204-226 home loss against Haddam-Killingworth. McPherson was the low man for the Warriors with his score of 52. Craco shot a 56, while Logan Bellos turned in a score of 57. Chris Cook tallied a score of 61 for Valley.

The Valley Regional girls’ tennis team continued their winning ways last week with two more victories to put on the pile. With the two wins, the Warriors qualified for the Class S State Championship. Valley is still undefeated at 11-0 on the season.

On April 24, Valley hosted Shoreline Conference opponent Portland and grabbed a 6-1 home win over the Highlanders. The next day, Valley had another home match against Old Lyme, and the Warriors defeated the Wildcats in a close 4-3 decision.

Valley played in a single match and lost last week. The defeat dropped the Warriors’ overall record to 4-5 on the year. On April 25, Valley went up against Shoreline Conference foe Old Lyme and took a 5-2 road loss against the Wildcats.

Valley only was able to get one contest in last week and it resulted in a tough loss for the Warriors. The defeat dropped Valley’s record to 4-3 on the year.

On April 25, the Warriors headed to the Indian River Complex in Clinton to take on Morgan, and they lost a 14-2 road game against the Huskies. Duncan Rider scored Valley’s two goals, and Sean Cole added an assist.

The Warriors had a pair of games on the schedule last week, and they picked up one win. The victory and loss moved Valley’s record to 3-6 on the season.

On April 25, the Warriors hosted Morgan and lost the home contest by a score of 13-8. Two days later, Valley earned a big 18-5 road victory versus Holy Cross.
