Printer Friendly Version - Morgan Boys’ Lacrosse Notches Two Decisive Wins; Baseball Gets Two of Three

The Morgan boys’ lacrosse team secured a pair of wins in as many contests last week. The two wins bumped the Huskies’ record up to 6-4 on the season.

On April 23, Morgan defeated Haddam-Killingworth in a 14-6 road game. The match stayed pretty close through the first half with Morgan leading just 6-4 by the intermission. In the second half, however, the Huskies ouscored H-K by an 8-2 margin en route to the 14-6 win.

Ryan Caldwell led Morgan’s scoring charge with six goals and one assist. Zak Johnson scored four goals and dished two assists. Matt Lee scored two goals and had one helper. Ford Pender and Tim Lichack provided one goal and one assist each. Matt Luchuk made 16 saves in goal.

Two days later, Morgan scored a blowout 14-2 home win against Valley Regional at the Indian River Complex. Morgan had an 8-0 lead by the end of the first half and cruised the rest of the way to victory.

Caldwell supplied three goals and three assists in the win, while Johnson added two goals and one assist. Lee (3 goals, 1 assist), Pender (3 goals, 2 assists), and Sean Fitzgerald (1 goal, 1 assist), Tim Lichack (2 goals, 1 assist), and John LeViness (1 assist) also contributed on offense. Luchuk made 13 saves.

The Huskies had just one game against Valley Regional last week and scored a win versus the Warriors. The victory improves Morgan’s record to 4-5 on the season.

On April 25, the Huskies headed to Deep River to battle the Warriors, and Morgan triumphed with a 13-8 score over Valley.

Maddie Stopkoski supplied eight goals, while Lindsay Narracci added two goals and two assists. Erin Lindsay had eight draw controls, one goal, and one assist. Amber Corrigan and Olivia McCray each had a goal, while Joelle Vuilleumier and Aryn McQuarrie tallied one assist apiece. Goalie Cassidy Shepard made 10 saves in net.

The Morgan baseball squad played a slate of three games last week and won two of its contests. With these results, the Huskies’ record moved to 4-8 on the campaign.

On April 23, the Huskies earned an exciting walk-off 4-3 win over the Westbrook. The Knights took the early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but Morgan came back with two runs in the bottom of the third for the 2-1 advantage. Westbrook tied the game in the top of the fifth inning and pushed another run across in the sixth for the 3-2 lead. The bottom of the seventh saw the Huskies drive in two runs with the walk-off line drive single.

Sophomore Ryan Egan got the big hit in the bottom of the seventh to plate Kyle Suraci and Chris Morris. Michael Zingarella went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Michael Menacho went 2-for-4 in the win. Connor Derry was the winning pitcher on the mound, pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts.

The next day, Morgan had some more late-inning theatrics against Old Lyme to score an 8-7 home win. Morgan took a 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the first and second innings. Old Lyme put a four-spot on the board in the top of the third to take the 4-2 advantage, but the Huskies tied it up with two runs in the fourth. Old Lyme plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning, and Morgan responded with four more runs to take the 7-6 lead in the bottom of the frame. The Huskies held off the Wildcats in the seventh for the win.

AJ Fritz got the win on the mound in relief, and he also scored two runs on a hit and a walk with an RBI. Zingarella went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Egan had a hit and a run, while Menacho walked twice, scored a run, and drove in a run. Suraci and Morris each added a hit. Ryan Hromadka had a run and walked.

On April 25, the Huskies lost an 8-1 road game at Old Saybrook. Morgan plated a run in the first inning, but it would prove to be all they scored as the Rams won by the seven-run advantage. Egan had a hit and an RBI, and Zingarella scored a run. Kyle Burt added a hit.

Morgan earned a win in three games played last week. With the mixed results, the Huskies moved to a record of 4-9 on the year.

On April 23, Morgan defeated Westbrook in 15-3 home win. The Huskies scored early and often to take the win over the Knights. Morgan plated four runs in the first, but then Westbrook shaved the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the second. Morgan put two more runs across the plate in the bottom of the second, then three more runs in the third, and six runs in the sixth.

Isabella Mongillo went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Heidi Gaudet also went 2-for-3 and had an RBI to go with a run scored and a walk. Bianca Arias drove in three runs, scored three runs, and had a hit and two walks. Becca Shamp scored two runs on a hit and a walk. Sage Follo had a pair of walks and two runs scored. Maggie Mahoney scored three runs.

On April 25, the Huskies hit the road to face Old Saybrook and lost a 14-2 contest against the Rams.

Follo, Mahoney, and Arias all had one single apiece. Colleen Edwards had an RBI triple in the loss.

Morgan lost both of its matches on the schedule last week. The two defeats dropped the Huskies’ record to 2-8 on the year.

On April 23, Morgan lost a 4-3 road match against East Hampton/Hale-Ray. The next day, the Huskies hosted Old Saybrook and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Rams.

The Morgan boys’ tennis team took a win and a loss in a slate of two games last week. With these results, the Huskies’ record moved to 7-3 on the year.

On April 23, Morgan defeated East Hampton in a 6-1 home match. Paddy Murray secured a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 2 singles match, while JP Nye notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Sean Arribas Cockley netted a 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4 position, and Liam Whelan got the 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Isaac Adler and Calvin Jackson claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win, and No. 2 tandem Tyler Greenhouse and Zach Johnson earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

On April 24, the Huskies dropped a 4-3 road decision versus Old Saybrook. Morgan saw a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Paddy Murray in the No. 4 singles match. On the doubles’ side, the No. 1 duo of Zach Johnson and Liam Whelan secured a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win. The No. 2 tandem of Isaac Adler and Calvin Jackson grabbed at 6-2, 6-4 victory.

The Huskies took home a win in three matchups last week. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 2-4 on the year.

On April 23, Head Coach Eric Bergman’s squad faced off against Hale-Ray and Fitch at the Clinton Country Club’s front nine. Morgan defeated Fitch by a score of 187-192, but lost to Hale-Ray by a 184-187 tally.

Jason Cohen shot the Huskies’ lowest score with 43 strokes. Matt Zoner turned in a score of 45, while Ryan Powers totaled a score of 48. Ethan Tessman finished the day with a score of 51.

The next day, Morgan lost a 180-196 road match to Old Lyme at the Black Hall Country Club’s front nine.
