The Valley Regional softball squad picked up its eighth win in its lone game on the schedule last week. The victory qualified the Warriors for the Class M State Tournament and continued their unbeaten streak with a record of 8-0 on the year.
On April 17, Valley headed to Old Lyme to face off against the fellow Shoreline Conference competitor and grabbed a 10-3 road win over the Panthers. The Warriors were bolstered by a stellar game from pitcher Addy Bullis, who earned the win on the mound and provided plenty of pop at the plate going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Bullis was a single shy of the cycle with a home run, a triple, and a double among her three hits.
Valley got out to a commanding lead early in the game posting four runs in the top of the first inning. The Warriors repeated that feat in the second inning to give them an 8-0 advantage, and they cruised the rest of the way en route to the 10-3 victory.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The Warriors played a pair of home games against Old Lyme and Haddam-Killingworth on last week’s slate and came away with victories in both contests. The wins improved Valley’s record to 4-2 on the season.
On April 16, the Warriors hosted Old Lyme and picked up a 13-7 victory against the Wildcats. Valley fell behind 5-3 at the end of the first half, but turned up the heat in the second half and charged ahead of Old Lyme for the 13-7 win.
Senior captain Sean Cole scored four goals to go with three assists in the win, while freshman attacker Duncan Rider continues to make a name for himself in the Shoreline Conference scoring five goals with two assists. Senior midfielder Cameron Frazier notched three goals along with two assists in the win.
Two days later, Valley played host to Haddam-Killingworth and earned an exciting 8-7 overtime win against the Cougars. Valley held a narrow 3-2 lead at the before the game went to overtime tied at 7-7 at the end of regulation. In the extra time, Rider (2 goals, 1 assist) secured the golden goal to win it for the Warriors.
Frazier provided three goals and three assists, while Cole had three goals and two assists in the victory.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The Warriors earned their second win and dropped a decision in a couple of contests last week. The split results moved Valley’s record to 2-5 on the season.
On April 16, the Warriors lost an 18-15 road contest versus Old Lyme. The next day, Valley picked up a 23-17 win against Haddam-Killingworth.
Crew
The Valley Regional Crew competed against Worcester Public at Lake Quonsigamond in Massachusetts on April 17. The conditions on the water were pleasant with a mild crosswind for the 1,500 meter races, and the Warriors saw some steady results in the regatta.
In the girls’ races, Valley’s first boat took first place with a time of 6:05.84 to outpace Worcester’s time of 6:45.39. The Warriors’ second boat (6:29.61) also defeated Worcester’s second boat (7:04.36).
Valley’s third boat rowed to a time of 6:52.28, and the fourth boat turned in a pace of 6:41.06.
On the boys’ side, the Warriors’ first boat rowed a time of 5:45.07, while the second boat finished at 6:12.26.
Boys’ Tennis
Valley had three matches last week and notched two wins while taking one loss on the slate. With these results, the Warriors’ record evened at 4-4 on the season.
On April 16, Valley lost a 7-0 road contest against Morgan. The next day, the Warriors earned a 6-0 home victory against Coginchaug. On April 18, Valley netted a 5-2 home victory over East Hampton. Girls’ Tennis
The Warriors swept all of their matches last week to add three more wins to their undefeated record. Valley’s mark on the year stands at 9-0 on the season to pull within one win of qualifying for the Class S State Championship.
On April 16, the Warriors hosted Morgan and swept all seven matches for the 7-0 home victory over the Huskies. The next day, Valley headed to Durham and defeated Coginchaug by a score of 7-0. On April 18, the Warriors were at East Hampton and won a 6-1 road match against East Hampton/Hale-Ray.
