H-K Baseball Takes First Loss, Bounces Right Back; Lacrosse Teams Battle Valley Valiantly

Baseball

The Haddam-Killingworth baseball team took its first defeat of the season last week, but then finished up the week by earning a one-sided win. The Cougars have a record of 7-1 and are just one win away from securing a postseason berth.

The Cougars dropped a 3-2 decision against Portland on April 16. H-K went up 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double from Jimmy McGoey and an RBI single by Ryan Kellenbach. Portland used two hits and two walks in the bottom half of the frame to plate three runs and come away with the win.

Just one day later, H-K got back in the win column by notching a 9-2 victory over Coginchaug. Jon Civiello allowed just one run in five innings to earn the win and helped his cause by getting two hits and five RBI at the plate. Mike O’Toole and Luke DiMauro each had two hits for the Cougars.

Softball

H-K moved to 3-4 on the year after losing a recent contest.

The Cougars lost to Coginchaug by the score of 7-2 on April 17. Adelle Biondi hit a two-run single for H-K in the game.

Girls’ Lacrosse

H-K dropped a 23-17 decision against Valley Regional in its lone game of the week on April 17. The Cougars have a record of 0-5 on the year.

Boys’ Lacrosse

H-K stands at 3-2 this season following a narrow defeat last week. On April 18, the Cougars faced off against Valley Regional and lost an 8-7 contest.

Boys’ Tennis

H-K took two losses last week and is now 2-6 this year.

On April 16, the Cougars dropped a 7-0 contest versus East Hampton. H-K then lost to Old Lyme by that same score the following day.

Girls’ Tennis

The Cougars lost a pair of contests last week.

H-K took a 5-2 loss against East Hampton/Hale-Ray on April 16. The next day, the Cougars lost to Old Lyme by a 5-2 final to move to 1-7 this spring.
