North Haven Girls’ Tennis Improves to 7-1 with Perfect Week

The North Haven girls’ tennis team played three matches last week and recorded convincing wins in all three of them to improve to 7-1 this season. The Indians netted 7-0 shutouts over West Haven and Career to go with a 6-1 victory against Lyman Hall in last week’s action. North Haven needs two more wins to qualify for the Class M State Tournament.

On April 15, the Indians hosted West Haven in a match that was originally slated to be played at North Haven Athletic Complex, but was moved indoors to North Haven Health & Racquet Club due to rain. North Haven blanked the Blue Devils by the final score of 7-0 in the match. Senior Julia Migliorini claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles contest, while freshman Ally Vollero notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles for the Indians. Senior Lily Mezzi prevailed by a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 3 singles, and sophomore Megan Kell won a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the No. 4 singles match.

On the doubles court, North Haven’s No. 1 duo of senior Zoe Bowerman and junior Kara Stevens recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory; the No. 2 team of seniors Daniella Bryson and Jess Tran won a 6-1, 6-1 decision; and the No. 3 tteam of senior Yasmin Mohamed and junior Claire Looney triumphed by an 8-1 final.

The next day, North Haven traveled to Doolittle Park in Wallingford, where the Indians earned a 6-1 road victory versus Lyman Hall. North Haven swept singles play on the afternoon. Migliorini (6-0, 6-0), Vollero (6-1, 6-0), and Mezzi (6-0, 6-0) were victorious at the top three singles slots. Junior Anna Wootton claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles contest.

Bowerman and Stevens notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles match for the Indians. Mohamed and Looney blanked their opponents by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 3 doubles. Head Coach Bob Migliorini also noted a nice comeback effort from Bryson and Tran in a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 defeat in the No. 2 doubles match.

The Indians finished out their week by posting a 7-0 shutout against Career at North Haven Athletic Complex. North Haven won all four singles matches behind victories from Migliorini (6-0, 6-0), Vollero (6-0, 6-0), Mezzi (6-0, 6-1), and Wootton (6-0, 6-0). The Indians also swept the Panthers on the doubles court. North Haven’s top team of Bowerman and Stevens prevailed by a 6-1, 6-0 final; the duo of Tran and senior Melinda Vissicchio earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory; and the No. 3 team of Mohamed and Looney won a 6-0, 6-1 decision to help the Indians complete their perfect week.

North Haven has three road matches on its schedule this week. The Indians will face Sacred Heart Academy at Hamden Middle School on Tuesday, April 30; followed by a non-conference match at Wilcox Tech on Thursday, May 2; and then a match at Guilford on Friday, May 3. All three matches start at 3:45 p.m.
