Rams’ Softball Earns First Two Wins; Golf, Girls’ Lacrosse Takes Three

Softball

The Old Saybrook softball squad notched a pair of wins in a slate of three games last week. The victories move the Rams’ record to 2-4 on the season. These marked the first victories for Head Coach Katelyn Livingston’s squad this season.

On April 9, the Rams picked up a huge 21-2 blowout road win against Westbrook. The next day, Old Saybrook dropped a 12-4 contest at home against Old Lyme. The Wildcats got up 6-1 by the third inning, and the Rams were unable to recover. Lexie Root, Rachel Baldi, and Maeve Foley all had two hits apiece in the loss.

On April 12, Old Saybrook secured a 16-4 home win against Portland. The Rams put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the first two innings, plating five runs in each, before adding three more runs in third and fifth innings. After the fifth inning was over and the Rams had a 16-4 advantage, the game was called on account of the mercy rule.

Emiley Wilson led the Rams offensively with three hits including a double and two singles. Lexie Root had three singles and Christina Lombardi also had a pair of singles. Lombardi was also the winning pitcher for Old Saybrook.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Rams grabbed two big wins against conference opponents and added another victory in non-conference matchup in slate of three games last week. With the victories, Old Saybrook’s record moves to 5-1 on the season.

On April 9, the Rams hosted Haddam-Killingworth and earned a 17-5 win over the Cougars. Two days later, Old Saybrook scored a 20-6 road victory against Valley Regional. On April 13, the Rams headed to Wallingford, where they eked out a narrow 14-13 road victory over the Titans.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Old Saybrook lost both of contests on its slate last week. With the two defeats, Head Coach James Hespeler’s squad stands at a record of 1-4 on the season.

On April 9, the Rams lost a 17-2 road battle against Shoreline Conference foe Haddam-Killingworth. Two days later, Old Saybrook took a 13-0 defeat at home versus Valley Regional.

Golf

Old Saybrook earned two victories in its three matches last week. The wins bring the Rams’ record back to even at 2-2 on the season.

On April 9, Head Coach Curtis Gullette’s squad dropped a 155-178 road decision against Coginchaug. The next day, the Rams secured a 158-182 victory at home against Morgan. Jack Walsh earned the medal for his score of 37 strokes. Ben O’Dell and Matt Rothman each turned in scores of 40. Garrett Brady finished with a tally of 41, and Garrett Hilger shot a 49.

On April 11, Old Saybrook defeated North Branford in a 176-257 road win.

Boys’ Tennis

The Rams had just one road match last week, and they came away with a win to improve their record to 4-1 on the season. Head Coach Gerald Carlone’s squad defeated Old Lyme by a 4-3 decision on April 9.

Girls’ Tennis

Old Saybrook lost two contests last week agaisnt formidable Shoreline Conference foes. With these results, Head Coach Ruthanne Rothman’s squad has a record of 3-3 on the season so far. On April 9, the Rams lost a 7-0 home decision against Old Lyme. On April 12, Old Saybrook hosted Portland and dropped a narrow 4-3 match versus the Highlanders.
