Huskies’ Boys’ Tennis Takes Two; Boys’ Lacrosse Defeats Valley

Boys’ Tennis

The Morgan boys’ tennis squad earned a pair of victories in its first three matches of the year. The Huskies grabbed wins versus Old Saybrook and Westbrook and lost a contest against Old Lyme for a 2-1 start to the season.

On March 30, Morgan notched a 4-3 home victory over Old Saybrook. Chris Nuzzo scored a 6-7 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 1 singles for the Huskies. JP Nye netted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 singles match, while Sean Arribas Cockley notched a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Isaac Adler and Calvin Jackson earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.

Two days later, the Huskies lost a 4-3 home match to Old Lyme. Nye earned a 6-4, 6-2 win, and Arribas Cockley claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory. The duo of Adler and Jackson prevailed by the score of 6-0, 6-1.

On April 4, Morgan defeated Westbrook by a 6-1 final on the road. The Huskies ran the table in singles with Nuzzo (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), Garret Johnson (6-1, 6-1), Paddy Murray (6-2, 6-0), Nye (6-4, 6-2), and Arribas Cockley (6-0, 6-1) earning victories at the No. 1 through 5 spots, respectively. In doubles, Zach Johnson and Liam Whalen picked up a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 win in the No. 1 matchup.

Girls’ Tennis

The Huskies took four defeats during the opening week of the season.

On March 30, Morgan dropped a 5-2 match at Old Saybrook. Two days later, the Huskies lost a 6-1 decision against Old Lyme on the road. Morgan’s No. 2 doubles team of Ingrid Rodriguez and Sydney Fratamico claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

On April 3, Morgan took a 4-3 defeat at Portland. The Huskies’ No. 1 doubles team of Becca Arribas Cockley and Melanie Coretti netted a 6-4, 6-3 win; the No. 2 tandem of Rodriguez and Fratamico prevailed 6-1, 6-0 win; and the No. 3 team of Tatiana Serrano and Misha Rai notched a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

The next day, Morgan lost a 6-1 home decision against Westbrook. Maddie Tuccitto earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 singles position.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Huskies took home a win in their slate of three games last week. Morgan earned a victory over Valley Regional and then took losses against Waterford and Branford to start off 1-2 this year.

On April 2, defeated Valley Regional by the final score of 13-10 on the road. Two days later, the Huskies lost a 19-7 road contest to Waterford. On April 6, Morgan took a 9-6 loss home against Branford.

Baseball

Morgan is 1-2 to start the spring after winning one of its three games last week.

On April 1, Morgan lost an 8-6 road contest against Hale-Ray. Two days later, the Huskies’ offense exploded for a 10-1 home win versus East Hampton. On April 5, Morgan dropped an 11-3 home game against Valley Regional.

Softball

The Huskies lost three of four in the first week of their campaign for an early record of 1-3.

On March 30, the Huskies lost a 9-8 game versus New London. Two days later, Morgan dropped a 7-6 decision against Hale-Ray. On April 3, the Huskies routed East Hampton by the final score of 15-1. Two days after that, Morgan lost a 14-2 contest to Valley Regional.
