Easties’ Tennis Teams, Baseball Get Campaigns Underway

Girls’ Tennis

The East Haven girls’ tennis team is 1-1 to start its season after splitting its first two matches of the campaign. The Yellowjackets took a 4-3 loss at West Haven on April 2, but came back to get a 7-0 home victory versus Wilcox Tech two days later.

Senior Jenna Pane earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles when East Haven defeated Wilcox Tech. Junior Jade Roberts prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, senior Mikayla Raffone notched a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, and freshman Linnette Gonzalez won her match at No. 4 singles by a 6-4, 6-0 score. In doubles action, the Easties No. 1 team of senior Vicky Gaudino and Emma Luden claimed a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory; the No. 2 duo of juniors Kayla Vernon and Riya Patel won 6-1, 6-1; and the No. 3 team of senior Brianna Green and sophomore Siya Patel earned a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 victory to complete the sweep.

Boys’ Tennis

The Yellowjackets played three matches to begin their first year with new Head Coach Anthony Perrotti last week. East Haven took three defeats by losing a 6-1 decision versus Sheehan on March 30, a 5-2 contest to Foran April 1, and a 7-0 match against Cheshire on April 2.

Facing Sheehan, the Yellowjackets’ No. 1 doubles team of senior captain Joe Brown and sophomore Matt DiVito earned a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 victory. In the Foran match, Brown and DiVito prevailed again by claiming 7-5, 6-4 win. Also in that match, East Haven’s No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Matt Battaglino and junior Fabrizio Bugati notched their first victory of the year via a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.

Baseball

The Easties opened their season by hosting North Haven on April 3. The Yellowjackets took an 11-4 loss against the Indians at East Haven High School.

East Haven had 12 hits as a team in the defeat. Seniors Furino and Hunter Santana had hits three apiece for the Yellowjackets.
