On Feb. 8, the Haddam-Killingworth Middle School (HKMS) boys’ basketball team earned a 74-56 victory over John Winthrop Middle School to finish its season with a record of 16-0 and capture the Shoreline Middle School Conference championship. This marks the team’s fourth undefeated season since 2010.

H-K averaged 65 points per game and allowed only 37 per game on the year, notching its victories by an average margin of 28 points per contest. The team won every game by double figures, aside from a thrilling, five-point overtime victory versus Old Saybrook late in the season.

H-K was led by 8th-grade students Justin Menard, Bryce Anderson, and Mason Gorham, who combined to average more than 40 points per game this season. Each player scored more than 20 points on multiple occasions during the year. The trio was aided by the stellar play of fellow starters Tate Callender and Callen Powers, along with the sharp-shooting prowess of Ethan Bessoni, who was the conference’s Sixth Man of the Year Award winner. One of the strengths of the team was its incredible depth, as H-K received contributions from Joe Giaccone, Patrick Mitchill, Dylan Coon, Ben DeCrosta, and Tyler Perry throughout its championship campaign. H-K was coached by Brett Zanardi.

The members of the team thank the HKMS faculty and staff, their classmates, along with their parents and siblings for their unwavering support this season.
