Smith Swims Two Events for Westbrook at States

Senior Garrett Smith swam two events for Westbrook at the Class S State Championship last week. Smith took sixth place in the 200 individual medley and finished seventh in the 100 butterfly at the meet, which was held at Wesleyan University on March 11.

Smith finished with a time of 2:03.41 to place sixth in the 200-yard individual medley at the Class S State Championship. He scored 23 points on behalf of the Knights with this performance. Smith had previously posted a time of 1:59.93 in the event at the Class S Trials at the Cheshire Community Pool on March 9.

In the 100 butterfly, Smith claimed seventh place by swimming a time of 54.32 seconds in the Class S meet, scoring 22 points for Westbrook. Smith had finished with a mark of 53.64 at the trials. Between his two performances at the championship, Smith scored 45 points for Westbrook that put the team in 22nd place out of 32 squads at the meet.

Earlier in the postseason, Smith took third place in the 200 individual medley (2:05.67) and the 100 butterfly (55.0) at the Nutmeg Conference Championship on Feb. 28.
