Hanratty Wins the 1,000 for Old Saybrook at New Englands

Girls’ Indoor Track

Old Saybrook junior Grace Hanratty is New England’s champion in the 1,000-meter run for 2019. Hanratty represented the Rams when she ran the 1,000 at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts on March 2. Hanratty recorded a time of 2:56.29 to take first place and edge out runner-up Cassandra Carleson of Plainfield, who finished with a time of 2:56.56.

Hanratty earned her spot at New Englands when she finished first in the 1,000 at the State Open Championship two weeks earlier. Hanratty ran a time of 2:58.14 to beat out Carleson, who placed second with a time 3:00.41. Prior to that, Hanratty earned first place in the 1,000 at the Class S State Championship, where finished in 2:58.03 to defeat Carleson with her time of 3:02.99.

Boys’ Basketball

The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team opened the Division IV State Tournament by winning a first-round game against No. 24 seed Aerospace at home on March 5. The 9th-seeded Rams will play at No. 8 seed Stonington (16-5) in a second-round contest on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. The Division IV quarterfinals are on Friday, March 8; the semis take place on Tuesday, March 12; and the Division IV state final will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on either Saturday, March 16 or Sunday, March 17.
