Old Saybrook Boys’ Basketball Loses to Morgan in Shoreline Quarterfinals

The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team closed out its regular season by posting wins over Morgan and North Branford, after which the Rams took a loss against Morgan in the quarterfinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament. Old Saybrook has an overall record of 15-6 and will next compete in the Division IV State Tournament starting on Monday, March 4.

On Feb. 18, the Rams hosted Morgan on their Senior Night and earned a 37-23 victory against the Huskies. Old Saybrook got out to a 20-5 lead at halftime and kept Morgan at bay the rest of the way to finish with the 14-point win. Senior captain Shane Henderson scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists for Old Saybrook. Junior Davis Brown had 14 points, three boards, and three assists. Senior Kam Baker added eight rebounds with three points in the victory.

Three days later, Old Saybrook headed to North Branford, where they routed Thunderbirds by the final score of 88-57. The victory marked the Rams’ seventh straight win and put their regular season record at 15-5. After grabbing an early lead, Old Saybrook never looked back on its way to the 31-point victory. The Rams saw all 13 of their players score points in the win, although Henderson had to leave the game prior to the second half due to an injury. Brown scored 18 points to go along with four assists for the Rams.

On Feb. 23, No. 4 seed Old Saybrook hosted No. 5 Morgan in the Shoreline Conference Tournament quarterfinals and dropped a 40-38 decision. The Rams, who were missing Henderson, got out to a 16-10 lead in the first quarter. Morgan outscored Old Saybrook 15-9 in the second quarter to tie the game at 25-25 at halftime. Old Saybrook held a 33-30 lead after three quarters, but Morgan won the final frame by a 10-5 margin to come away with the two-point victory. Brown scored 22 points for Old Saybrook in the loss.
