Boys’ Hockey Gains a Split on the Week; Boys’ Hoops Loses Season Finale


Boys’ Ice Hockey

The North Haven boys’ ice hockey team hosted a pair of non-conference games at Northford Ice Pavilion last week and came away from the set with a split. The Indians earned a victory versus the Eastern CT Eagles and then took a loss against Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe. North Haven has a record of 4-13-2 with one game left in its campaign.

On Feb. 18, the Indians posted a 3-1 home win against the Eastern CT Eagles in a non-conference clash, marking the team’s third victory in its last four games. Then on Feb. 22, North Haven Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe on Senior Night and lost a 5-4 contest at Northford Ice Pavilion.

Boys’ Basketball

The Indians were on the road to face non-conference opponent Wilcox Tech for their season finale on Feb. 19. North Haven dropped a 68-52 decision versus Wilcox Tech to finish the year with a record of 5-15.

Wilcox Tech held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter and then increased its advantage to 34-28 at halftime. The host Indians outscored North Haven in both the third (17-14) and fourth (17-10) quarters to solidify the win. Senior Jamorea Hooks scored 17 points for North Haven, while fellow senior Mike Collins had 12 points. Junior Jaden Watson scored 10 points, and senior Justin Shea added five points on the night.

Girls’ Basketball

North Haven is the No. 30 seed in the Class L State Tournament and opened the draw by playing a first-round game at No. 3 seed Bullard Havens on Feb. 25 (after press time). With a victory, the Indians (7-13) would play at the winner of No. 14 RHAM and No. 19 Hand in a second-round contest on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The Class L quarterfinals are on Monday, March 4; the semis take place on Friday, March 8; and the Class L state final will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on either Saturday, March 17 or Sunday, March 18.

Cheerleading

Following a first-place finish in the All-Girl Division at the SCC Championship, the North Haven cheerleading team is gearing up to compete at the State Championship this week. The meet will take place at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Saturday, March 2. Last year, the Indians finished in third place at the Class L State Championship.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

After recently finishing its regular season with a record of 4-6, North Haven is opening up the postseason this week. The Indians competed at the SCC Swimming Qualifying at the Cheshire Community Pool on Feb. 25 (after press time). After that, North Haven will be participating in the State Championship meets. The Class M Diving State Championship takes place at Bulkeley High School at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6; the Class M Swimming State Qualifying is at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9: and the Class M Swimming State Championship will be held on Monday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Wesleyan University.
