Westbrook Girls’ Hoops Loses to Valley in Shorelines; Boys Drop Contest Against East Hampton

Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball team earned a win and a took loss to finish their regular season last week. After that, Westbrook squared off against Valley Regional in a Shoreline Conference Tournament play-in game and took a defeat to move to 9-12 overall. The Knights are competing in the Class S State Tournament beginning with a first-round game on Monday, Feb. 25.

On Feb. 15, the 9th-seeded Knights headed into the Shoreline Conference Tournament missing two of their best players in senior guards Savannah Marshall and Gabby Ehlert. Westbrook traveled to Deep River for a play-in game versus No. 8 seed Valley Regional, which won the matchup by the final score of 43-15. The Knights started off strong and had a 7-2 lead midway through the first quarter. However, the Warriors began taking control of the game and were up 25-10 at halftime. Valley increased its lead throughout the second half en route to the 28-point victory.

Earlier in the week, the Knights posted a lopsided 45-26 home win over Wheeler on Feb. 11. Two days later, Westbrook lost a 35-34 home contest against East Hampton to finish the regular season at 9-11.

Boys’ Basketball

The Knights took on East Hampton in their lone game of the week last week. On Feb. 15, Westbrook headed to East Hampton and lost a 72-51 contest against the Bellringers. The loss puts the Knights’ record at 5-14 with one game left in the year.
