Valley Boys’ Hoops Rallies for Two Big Road Wins

The Valley Regional boys’ basketball team played three games last week and came away with victories in two of those matchups. Valley started off the week by rallying for a two-point win over Shoreline Conference rival Morgan. After dropping a game against Amistad, the Warriors scored a one-point victory versus Rockville on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from senior Kevin Fasulo. Valley Regional has a record of 14-5 entering the final week of the regular season.

On Feb. 11, Valley headed to Clinton and notched a 43-41 come-from-behind road win against Morgan. After falling behind 11-5 in the first quarter, the Warriors got going in the second quarter and took a 22-19 lead into halftime. The Huskies responded by outscoring Valley 16-7 during third quarter to bring a 35-29 lead into the final frame. Valley locked down on defense in the fourth quarter and outscored Morgan by a 14-6 margin to head home with a two-point win.

Kevin Fasulo had 17 points to go with five rebounds, two blocks, and five steals for the Warriors. Gavin Grabowski added 13 points with five assists and two steals. Chris Sparaco had eight points along with 10 boards, two steals, and one block in the win.

Three days later, Valley lost a 69-50 home game versus Amistad in non-conference action. After Valley grabbed an 18-13 advantage in the first quarter, Amistad turned the tables in the second and went up 30-24 at halftime. The Wolves added to their lead in the second half on their way to the 19-point win. Fasulo had 16 points with five steals and five assists, while Sparaco scored 12 with eight rebounds for Valley Regional. Cade Ensinger scored nine points to go wth five boards, three assists, and three steals.

On Feb. 16, the Warriors got back into the win column by rallying for a 49-48 victory at Rockville in another non-conference contest. Valley fell into a 18-8 hole in the first quarter, but cut the deficit in half and was only down 28-23 at intermission. After a tight third quarter, Rockville held a 38-31 edge going into the fourth. Valley outscored the Rams 18-10 during the final period, winning the game when Fasulo drained a 3-pointer from way downtown as time expired for the one-point victory.

Sparaco had 15 points with six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks for Valley. Fasulo scored 14 points to go with seven boards, five blocks, and three assists. Junior John Tibbets had a huge night on defense with seven blocks, and he also scored four points. Ensinger supplied nine points and seven assists in the win.

After playing its final game of the regular season, Valley Regional will compete in the Shoreline Conference Tournament beginning on Saturday, Feb. 23.
