After closing out its regular season, the Morgan girls’ basketball team claimed a 51-39 home win over Portland in the quarterfinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on Feb. 16. On Feb. 16, Morgan came into the Shoreline quarters as the No. 3 seed and notched a 51-39 home win versus 6th-seeded Portland. The Huskies held a 19-13 lead at halftime and more than doubled that advantage in the third quarter by outscoring Portland 15-8. Morgan ultimately came away with the 12-point win.

Earlier in the week, Morgan posted a 35-21 road win at Valley Regional on Feb. 11. Both teams played an even first quarter, but the Huskies held the Warriors to just two points in the second quarter for 21-12 lead at halftime. Morgan kept Valley at bay the rest of the way to take the 14-point victory. Joelle Vuilleumier led the Huskies in scoring with 14 points to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Clifton had seven steals with eight points and four assists, while McComiskey scored eight points and corralled eight rebounds.

Two days after that, Morgan lost a 54-46 decision against Guilford in a non-conference game. Morgan entered the second half trailing by three points and then closed the lead to two points entering the fourth. Ultimately, Guilford pulled away by outscoring the Huskies 17-11 during the final frame to get to the eight-point win. Rachel Lehn had 15 points with four rebounds, while McComiskey scored 14 points to go with seven boards and four blocks. Vuilleumier grabbed eight boards, had three assists, and blocked two shots. Clifton had eight assists with six steals and five rebounds.

Morgan faced No. 2 seed East Hampton in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament at Cromwell High School on Feb. 19 (after press time). With a win, the Huskies would face the winner of Cromwell and Old Lyme in the final at Old Saybrook High School on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. After Shorelines, Morgan will compete in the Class M State Tournament starting with first-round action on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Boys’ Basketball

Morgan split a pair of contests last week by picking up a win against Tourtellotte and taking a loss versus Valley Regional. With these results, the Huskies moved to 13-5 entering the final week of the regular season.

On Feb. 11, Morgan hosted Valley Regional and took a 43-41 loss against the Warriors. Both team exchanged leads throughout the game, with Morgan eventually taking a six-point lead in the fourth quarter.
