Senior Ben Falivene took second place in the 285-pound division while representing Valley Regional at the Class S Wrestling State Championship that was held at Windham High School on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

Falivene received a first-round bye by virtue of earning the No. 3 seed out of the 17 wrestlers in his weight class. In the second round, Falivene faced Connor Bengston of Thomaston and won by pin in just 22 seconds to advance to the quarterfinal round. In the quarters, Falivene scored a win by pin against Thomas Perry of Haddam Killingworth in 31 seconds. Then in the semifinals, Falivene squared off with Nole Snieckus of Northwestern. In the final, Falivene went up against Darrick Deveau of Montville and lost by pin at the 1:26 mark to finish in second place at the meet.

As a result of his performance, Falivene qualified to wrestle at the State Open Championship this week. The meet takes place at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23
