Bradley Claims 132-Pound Title for Morgan at States

One week after winning a conference title, sophomore Louis Bradley claimed first place in the 132-pound weight class for the Morgan wrestling team at last weekend’s Class S State Championship. The Huskies finished in 12th place with 52 points scored at the Class S meet, which took place at Windham High School on Feb. 15 and 16.

Bradley captured the state crown by winning an 8-7 decision over Devin Matthews of Gilbert in the championship match of the 132-pound tournament. Bradley had a first-round bye and then scored a win by pin at the 1:00 mark over Liam Kaine of Oxford in his opening bout. Bradley earned a pinfall victory versus Hunter Sanden of Northwestern at the 1:16 mark in the quarterfinal round. In the semis, Bradley defeated Tristan Julian of Stafford by a 6-4 decision to advance to face Matthews in the final. During the previous week, Bradley finished first in the 132-pound division at the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship by winning a 7-4 decision versus Keldon LaRose from Guilford in the title bout on Feb. 9.

The Huskies saw several other wrestlers earn victories between the championship and consolation rounds at the Class S State Championship. Kevin Hicks won two matches for Morgan in the 113-pound weight class at states. Hicks pinned Dylan Bucci of Plainville at the 1:58 mark in his first match. He later won a 4-2 decision over Kevin Decesare of Nonnewaug. Rex Smith claimed a pair of victories in the 138-pound division. Smith recorded with a pinfall win against Xsevior Torres of Windham at 3:52 mark. After that, he pinned Marco Follino of Northwestern at 3:20.

In the 152-pound division, David Fortuna scored a win by pin at the 3:52 mark against Bailey Schuster of Terryville. Ryan Hromadka pinned Matthew Sefcik of St. Paul just 43 seconds into their 160-pound bout. At 170, Kyle Neumann earned a 7-5 decision against Ioanni Cobena of Montville.
